From a core install, I have had to do the following.
nano /etc/locale.gen and uncomment:
en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
en_US ISO-8859-1
save and exit.
Default network config is all screwy, not going to run through everything, I'll just post the worknig version of rc.conf.

After this pacman -Sy nvidia
pacman -S fluxbox
pacxman -S openbox
pacman -S gedit
Now nano ~/.xinitrc
exec fluxbox or openbox, you're choice.
Working xorg for this rig somewhere on this site.
